Neuropsychological Assessments

Dr. Leslie specializes in the assessment and treatment of Specific Learning Disabilities (including dyslexia), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She works with children as young as 2, teens, and adults with these diagnoses and many other psychiatric conditions.

Often, the bulk of testing can be completed using the Q-Interactive
® iPad System, computerized performance measures on a special laptop, and electronic parent/teacher questionnaires. This technology provides instant scoring so that the assessments may be customized to suit individual needs, testing time is reduced, and costs are lowered. Many examinees find that using the iPads to be faster, more engaging, and less like a "test."

As a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, Dr. Leslie has expertise in conducting rigorous evaluations in such a way that translates directly to intervention and skill improvement. In addition, Dr. Leslie has cultivated a specialty in discovering learning difficulties in individuals who come from diverse cultural and/or linguistic backgrounds, including English learners.

She is passionate about school neuropsychology and often uncovers diagnoses previously missed in prior evaluations, as well as provide definitive answers for formerly inconclusive results.

So how does it work?
A typical approach to evaluation includes:
  1. A telehealth intake appointment to review the patient's history (parents only for children under 12)
  2. One to two in-person testing sessions with Dr. Leslie. Total testing time is typically 4-7 hours.
  3. Telehealth results meeting will be scheduled 2-3 weeks after all testing is completed and data has been returned from teachers & parents. Dr. Leslie will explain all findings in plain language so that you can advocate for yourself (or for your child).
  4. You will receive a comprehensive written report (usually about 15-20 pages) following the feedback session that you can share with medical, therapy, and educational providers. It will include any diagnoses, intervention strategies, and recommendations so that you can pursue medication and/or accommodations if applicable.

COVID-19 Considerations
We work with one patient, per exam room, per day. Masks will be worn through the entirety of the testing, except where otherwise indicated. Sometimes examinees may have difficulty hearing the items, in which case Dr. Leslie may lower her mask temporarily so they are not unduly penalized. Likewise, individuals with speech articulation issues may be asked to lower their mask for certain items. Clear face shields are also available.

If you, your child, or anyone in your family is not feeling well for any reason - please stay home and we will reschedule free of charge.

Assessment Domains
Dr. Leslie owns a wonderfully diverse library of the newest evaluation tools to assess concerns for preschoolers up through aging adults.
